The Basic Characteristics of the Yangbajing Geothermal Field-A Typical High Temperature Geothermal System

Duo Ji

Strategic Study of CAE 2003, Volume 5, Issue 1,   Pages 42-47

Abstract:

The Yangbajing Geothermal Field is one of non-volcanic high-temperature geothermal fields. The Yangbajing convective system consists of two reservoirs at different depth. The shallow reservoir is constitued of loose alluvium of Quanternary and altered granite of Himalaya. Temperature inside the shallow reservoir is in the range of 150〜165℃ at the depth of 180〜280 m. Shallow thermal water is of sodium chlorite type and mixture of deep hot water and cold groundwater. The deep reservoir is in a slip-fault zone of the core complex. It is a veinor zone-shape reservoir. The deep reservoir can be divided into two parts. The upper parts of temperature 251℃ is at depths ranging from 950m to 1350 m. The lower part is below 1850 m , in which the measured temperature is as high as 329℃ . The deep thermal water is of sodium chlorite type, too. Carbon dioxide-is a major non-condensate gas in the shallow and deep reservoir.

Magmatic Ore Deposits in Small Rockbody in China

Tang Zhongli

Strategic Study of CAE 2002, Volume 4, Issue 6,   Pages 9-12

Abstract:

There is not any large deposit associated with giant layered igneous complex in China. But superlarge and large magmatic deposits have been discovered in many small intrusions. Therefore, research and exploration direction having great potentialities for the magmatic deposits of small intrusions is defined. The Jinchuan and Panzhihua deposits represent two important types of the magmatic deposits in China.

Reinforcement of the two-stage leaching of laterite ores using surfactants

Peiyu Zhang, Hairui Wang, Jingcheng Hao, Jiwei Cui

Frontiers of Chemical Science and Engineering 2021, Volume 15, Issue 3,   Pages 562-570 doi: 10.1007/s11705-020-1946-5

Abstract: A two-stage leaching process, namely, high-pressure acid leaching-atmospheric acid leaching, was used to treat laterite ores under mild conditions. The leaching ratio of Ni was low because of adsorption and incomplete leaching. In this work, surfactants were used as additives to boost the leaching ratio of Ni. The effect of surfactant type (cationic, anionic, and nonionic surfactants) on the leaching ratio of Ni was investigated. Leaching results showed that stearyl trimethyl ammonium chloride (STAC) apparently increased the leaching ratios of valuable metals. The variation in the physicochemical properties of the lixiviant and the residue improved the leaching ratio of Ni in the presence of STAC. Kinetics analysis indicated that the leaching process was controlled by chemical reaction.

Influence of influent on anaerobic ammonium oxidation in an Expanded Granular Sludge Bed-Biological Aerated Filter integrated system

Daijun ZHANG, Cui BAI, Ting TANG, Qing YANG

Frontiers of Environmental Science & Engineering 2011, Volume 5, Issue 2,   Pages 291-297 doi: 10.1007/s11783-010-0270-6

Abstract: Shortcut nitrification-denitrification, anaerobic ammonium oxidation (ANAMMOX), and methanogenesis have been successfully coupled in an Expanded Granular Sludge Bed-Biological Aerated Filter (EGSB-BAF) integrated system. As fed different synthetic wastewater with chemical oxygen demand (COD) of 300–1200 mg·L and of 30–120 mg·L at the outer recycle ratio of 200%, the influence of influent on ANAMMOX in the integrated system was investigated in this paper. The experimental results showed that higher COD concentration caused an increase in denitrification and methanogenesis but a decrease in ANAMMOX; however, when an influent with the low concentration of COD was used, the opposite changes could be observed. Higher influent concentration favored ANAMMOX when the COD concentration of influent was fixed. Therefore, low ratio would decrease competition for nitrite between ANAMMOX and denitrification, which was favorable for reducing the negative effect of organic COD on ANAMMOX. The good performance of the integrated system indicated that the bacterial community of denitrification, ANAMMOX, and methanogenesis could be dynamically maintained in the sludge of EGSB reactor for a certain range of influent.

Review and Outlook of Global Mining Since 2000

Yan Weidong, Guo Juan, Xu Shuguang, Lin Bolei, Sun Chunqiang

Strategic Study of CAE 2019, Volume 21, Issue 1,   Pages 61-67 doi: 10.15302/J-SSCAE-2019.01.009

Abstract:

Since 2000, the global mining industry has fluctuated cyclically with the world economy, and China has become the main driver of the development of global mining. The overall investment in global mineral exploration and development was insufficient, and new discoveries declined. The consumption of mineral products in the world generally increased, and the demand for new energy and new materials such as lithium and cobalt surged. Mining companies have shifted from large-scale expansion to asset restructuring, and invested more cautiously. The mineral resources strategy has been paid widespread attention, and mining regulations and policies generally tightened. Looking into the future, the world’s mineral consumption will continue to rise. South Asia will become a hot spot for mining investment. The energy revolution and artificial intelligence will promote the leap of the global mining industry, and the conflicts of interest in mining will escalate further.

Development Trend and Countermeasures of Nickel Sulfate Industry in China

Ren Xin, Zhang Yanfei, Xing Jiayun, Cui Bojing,Wang Liangchen,Wang Xiao

Strategic Study of CAE 2022, Volume 24, Issue 3,   Pages 40-48 doi: 10.15302/J-SSCAE-2022.03.005

Abstract:

Nickel sulfate—a crucial component of the nickel industry chain—is the core raw material that supports the development of new energy vehicle power batteries, electroplating, and other fields in China. Its industry development trends and technological development directions regarding raw material production, smelting, processing, and recycling have attracted much attention. In this paper, we summarize the current status of nickel sulfate production and technology in China, and analyze the major problems faced by China’s nickel sulfate industry, including inadequate supply of raw materials, high carbon emission intensity, and a deficient recycling system. Moreover, we analyze the development trends and propose the development ideas and goals for the industry by 2035. Furthermore, we propose the following countermeasures for promoting the sustainable development of the industry: (1) establishing an efficient supply system to promote the diversified supply of raw materials; (2) encouraging technological innovation to reduce production costs and supply pressure; (3) accelerating the development of the regenerated nickel industry to promote the consumption of regenerated nickel; and (4) accelerating the internationalization and industrial integration of Chinese enterprises to enhance their core competitiveness.
